Transitional Kindergarten vs. Junior Kindergarten
Transitional K is for those students who turn 5 between November 2 and December 2 of 2012. These students will be placed in Junior Kindergarten classes, they will NOT have the option to go directly into 1st grade the following year due to their age. They will be required to fill out a "Kindergarten Continuation" form and enter Traditional Kindergarten the following year. For enrollments we accept an appointment card in lieu of 5 year physical until students turn 5. In TSIS you will enroll as a kindergartener and for the next year you will choose "do not promote." Same schedule as traditional kindergarten.
Junior Kindergarten is geared toward those students who are "kindergarten age" but not necessarily "kindergarten ready" and their birthdays fall between July 1st and November 1st. This is a magnet program and these students comes from all over the district and usually return to home school the following year. These student WILL have the option to go directly to 1st grade the following year based on teacher recommendation and ultimately parent decision. For enrollments we accept an appointment card in lieu of 5 year physical until students turn 5. They will be required to fill out "Kindergarten Continuation Forms" if they will attend Traditional Kindergarten for the 2013-14 school year. In TSIS you will enroll as a kindergartener and for the next year you will choose "do not promote" unless student is going on to 1st grade. Same schedule as traditional kindergarten.
